Activist judges are releasing violent criminals back into our neighborhoods with little to no bail bonds while poor misdemeanor offenders are kept in extended pre-trial detention because they cannot afford even modest bail bonds. This injustice is not the spirit of the law that we hold sacred in Texas.

Statutory standards must be enacted to end this practice. Tim proposes a framework of bail principles that will establish an unambiguous standard based on the impact of crimes on victims and the risks to the society at large. Envisioned is a statutory standard that would apply by an algorithm across the entire criminal code where each infraction will be associated with an impact score that will determine the bail amounts that will be imposed. It will put a stop to the types of egregious abuses meted out to victims and society by lenient judges on one end of the spectrum and severe judges on the other.
