Meet Tim McDonough

We Can Make Texas Texan Again!

Early Life and Academic Career

Tim is the son of two US Marines, born at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He has lived around the world and coast to coast. Both of his parents are laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. His father is a member of the legendary “Chosin Few”.

He has served on the faculty of Southern Methodist University since 2011, first as an Adjunct Professor of Economics and since 2016 as a Clinical Professor of Information Technology and Operations Management at the Cox School of Business, where he teaches graduate-level courses in econometrics, machine learning, data mining, artificial intelligence, experimental design, GIS, and marketing attribution.

Professional Experience and Achievements

Before coming to the Cox School of  Business, Tim was a Google “MMM ad Scientist”, a role in which he provided leadership in developing global client analytic strategies and oversight of statistical modeling across a wide range of industries in the culmination of a commercial career that spanned more than three decades.

Prior to joining Google, he was the Chief Economist for Adometry, an ad-tech company in Austin and before that, he was the founding partner and director of the marketing science practice at J. Walter Thompson (New York and Dallas), the oldest and most widely recognized advertising agency brand in the world. Before his pioneering role as a “mad man” at JWT, he held senior management positions at other WPP and Omnicom agencies.

Before his career in advertising, he was a staff economist at American Airlines headquarters where he specialized in capacity planning and network optimization.

His engineering career spanned 15 years and culminated in his role as the chief designer of the installation and project manager for the certification of the Traffic and Collision Avoidance System on the American Airlines DC10, A300, B757 and B767 fleets.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii, a Master of Science in Economics from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. in Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Tim holds a patent for a trading system in the futures industry, is an amicus curiae of the Supreme Court of the United States, and as an FAA instrument-rated private pilot and aircraft owner, he has been an active and enthusiastic volunteer pilot for Angel Flight South Central based in Dallas, serving families in need throughout Texas and the bordering states.

Tim's Motivation and Vision

As a resident of this district, I, along with my fellow citizens, feel we have been systematically neglected and unjustly deprived of adequate representation in the Texas House by the Democrat incumbent, professional politician John Bryant.
